Alyssa Matuchniak is a Southern Californian emerging on the poetry scene. A second-generation biracial American—the daughter of an Indian mother and an English-Polish father—she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz and a Master of Arts in Teaching from UC Irvine. She currently works as a secondary English teacher, and dreams of becoming that “kind of weird but cool” teacher you hear about in stories. She is the author of the debut poetry book Small Wars, Little Revolutions (World Stage Press, 2018), and her poems have previously been published in Black Napkin Press.
Kelly Hanwright has learned to believe in Regeneration as a force, which is what the art of poetry represents for her. She creates to understand her Self and Life, and shares to help others do the same for themselves.
She is currently working on a poetic memoir called The Locust Years that is the story of life growing up with a parent with untreated schizophrenia. Through this project, Kelly hopes to bring awareness to mental health topics and the lives of mentally ill people and their families; to the fact that stigmatizing and ignoring only makes problems worse. Through that awareness she hopes to draw attention to the responsibility we have to each other as human brothers & sisters.
